On October 18, the Quito Auto Show was opened in grandeur at Cemexpo - the equatorial monument in Ecuador. As GWM's dealer in Ecuador, Ambacar brought Haval and GWM brands to attend the auto show independently and exhibited Haval H1, H2, H5, H6 sports edition and the H9 as well as the GWM pickup range. It also took this opportunity to release the brand-new Haval H6 and showcase this popular model.

The week of 20 September saw the launch of an epic adventure across the length and breadth of South Africa. Instead of swimmers launching themselves like seals in icy waters, cyclists facing their internal demons on a character building incline or runners' hot footing across flat unrelenting landscapes; this was a motoring adventure.

It took in scenic landscapes and varied terrain; from the wildness of the Kruger National Park to the awe inspiring majesty of two oceans bashing into each other at Cape Point, with the motoring climax in Cape Town.

Like any good story, the 2018 HAVAL Outreach Expedition was made up of three parts, a beginning middle and end.

Haval Outreach Expedition concludes in Cape Town

09 October 2018, Cape Town - After a journey spanning nearly 4 500km, the 2018 Haval Outreach Expedition reached its final stop in Cape Town, marking the end of an epic journey for the team.

After 15 days and ten stopovers the expedition made its way to Cape Agulhas, the southernmost point of the continent, to celebrate the completion of a very successful cross-country trip.

The six vehicles in the convoy, consisting of two Haval H9's, two Haval H6C's, a Haval H2 and GWM Steed 5E spent the last two weeks travelling from Johannesburg to Cape Town via the east coast of South Africa.

It was a gruelling trek at times, with some rough roads, challenging weather and 4x4 courses thrown into the mix. According to Charles Zhao, Managing Director of Haval Motors South Africa, "Although this journey was centred around reaching out to local communities and charities, it also served to prove that Haval can handle even the toughest local terrain."

02 October 2018, Port Elizabeth - The 2018 Haval Outreach Expedition recently arrived in the windy city of Port Elizabeth, marking the 7th stop on the journey.

The six vehicles in the convoy joined up with a group of nearly 40 local Haval customers and the entire group made their way to the Haval dealership in Port Elizabeth. Amidst delicious coffee and breakfast, Haval South Africa handed the keys for a brand-new H9 to Tom Swartz, the winner of Survivor South Africa 2018.

Swartz is an official brand ambassador for Haval South Africa, as well as Haval Port Elizabeth. Swartz said he was extremely thankful to Haval and was very excited to drive his brand-new Forest Green H9 for the first time.

27 September 2018, Coffee Bay - The 2018 Haval Outreach Expedition is making its way from Johannesburg to Cape Town along the east coast of South Africa. After a quick stop in the Kruger National Park, the convoy turned south and headed for Sodwana.

In Sodwana, the two 4x4 H9's in the group had the opportunity to show their muscle on the dunes. With six drive modes to choose from, including Sand Mode, the Haval H9 is perfectly suited for slippery and sandy driving conditions. The seven-seat luxury SUV proved to be extremely nimble on the challenging dunes. Recently launched in South Africa, the Haval H9 offers excellent performance, and it really is equally at home in the dunes as it is on the road.

25 September 2018, Midrand - The 2018 Haval Outreach Expedition kicked off in Johannesburg earlier this month with a convoy of two Haval H9s, two Haval H6Cs one Haval H2 and a GWM Steed 5E as the support vehicle. The journey runs from 20 September to 4 October and will see the six vehicles travel from Johannesburg to Cape Town along the East and South Coasts of South Africa.

According to Charles Zhao, Managing Director of Haval Motors South Africa, "As a relatively new brand in the country, this journey is an opportunity for us to show our commitment to the local market by supporting various local organisations unique to South Africa."

The first leg of the trip stretched from Johannesburg to the Kruger National Park in order to visit the remarkable K9 unit, which provides training and logistical back-up to conservation areas and game parks through the deployment of specialised working dog units that are specifically trained to combat poaching across the country. Haval South Africa made a donation of R10 000 to the K9 Conservation organisation.

11 September 2018, Midrand - Scarcely a month after its introduction to the local market, the Haval H9 has been named as one of only five semi-finalists in the Adventure SUV category of the 2018 Cars.co.za consumer awards.

Haval is shaking up the local automotive sector with its rapid growth, and the H9 is the fifth luxury SUV model in the Haval range to be launched in less than 18 months.

In under two years the company has grown from three dealerships in South Africa to 31, and this is the second Haval to be nominated for a Cars.co.za consumer award in as many years - last year the H2 made the semi-finalist list in the Compact Family category.

  • 30 August 2018, Midrand - Haval, the professional SUV division of GWM, is breaking new ground with the introduction of its first four-wheel drive model on local shores.

    Joining the South African range of its two-wheel drive small SUV derivatives, the 1.5-litre H1, H2 and H6, the large 7-seater H9 is powered by a 180 kW 2.0 Litre petrol turbo also found in the H6C.

    Haval is making huge strides on the South African family SUV market after the brand's local introduction just over a year ago.

    "Haval arrived in South Africa back in May 2017 and we started 12 months ago with just three Haval dealers," says Charles Zhao, Managing Director of Haval Motors South Africa. "By the end of June 2018 we had no less than 29 Haval dealers' countrywide thanks to full factory back-up from our parent company in China."

    The H9 is the fifth luxury SUV model in the Haval range to be launched in South Africa in less than 18 months.

    "Our objective is to have 35 Haval dealers across the country by the end of this year," says Zhao. "The arrival of our long awaited H9 is the latest addition to our powerful SUV range and will certainly assist us in expanding into the local market.

    The big new seven-seater H9 has outperformed some much more expensive rivals in other right-hand drive markets, and drew high praise from judges in Australia's coveted 4x4 awards in 2017, calling it "a machine rugged enough to survive the Australian outback".

    Acceleration of the NEV Strategy - Joint Venture Contract Signed by GWM and BMW

    [Beijing/Berlin July 10, 2018] Chinese Premier Li Keqiang and German Chancellor Angela Merkel presided over the fifth round of Chinese-German inter-governmental consultation in Berlin. Witnessed by Chinese and German government officials, the joint venture contract is entered into between Great Wall Motor Company Limited (hereinafter referred to as GWM) and BMW Holding B.V. (hereinafter referred to as BMW).

    According to the Contract, the joint venture with 50% of the shares held by GWM and BMW respectively is named: Spotlight Automotive Ltd., with a registered capital of RMB 5.1 Billion (approx.R10.2 Billion). The registered address is in Zhangjiagang, in the Jiangsu Province. The Board of Directors consists of six members, in which the chairman is appointed by GWM and the Vice Chairman by BMW, serving a total of four years. The JV has planned an international advanced vehicle plant with an annual standard capacity of 160,000 vehicles. This is the first BEV (Battery Electric Vehicle) joint venture project for the BMW Group worldwide and the bridgehead for the GWM New Energy Vehicles (NEV) to enter the global market.

    Happy First Birthday HAVAL!

    That's how much Haval retail sales have increased in SA in a scant 10 months, with the brand having launched here almost precisely one year ago.

    So, yes, we might live in an age of euphemism and hyperbole. An age where even a moderately good hamburger is dubbed "legendary."

    Even so, there's no denying that Haval's performance in the past 12 months has been anything less than phenomenal and fantastic, awesome and unprecedented.

    After all, when Haval debuted on the Mzansi market with a memorable media and dealer launch at Kyalami, it was an almost totally unknown quantity.
